Synthetic Metals publishes research on the physics, chemistry and applications of organic and carbon electronic materials such as electronic polymers and electronic molecular materials including novel carbon architectures. The journal aims to advance the field of materials publishing articles which significant in the following areas:

conducting and semiconducting polymers and molecular materials
fullerenes, carbon nanotubes, related novel carbon architectures and nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS)
    supramolecular conjugated architectures
nanoscale electronic molecular and electronic polymer materials
organic charge-transfer compounds and metal chain compounds
    functional pi-conjugated systems
    organic-inorganic electroactive hybrids including perovksites
molecular- and polymer-based magnets and ferroelectrics

The journal publishes original research papers, short communications and reviews. Original research papers and short communications should present a significant advance in the understanding or application of these materials and/ or devices made from them. Experimental, theoretical and application papers on the chemistry, physics and engineering of these materials and their electrical, photonic and magnetic properties are encouraged for submission. Papers on electronic, optoelectronic, electroluminescent, lasing, solar cell, sensor, actuator, biological and other potential applications of these materials are also welcome.

Special Issues
Special Issue on Emerging Thermoelectric Materials and Technologies
Submission Date: 2026-05-31

The special issue accepts research on organic, carbon, and hybrid thermoelectric materials and technologies through reviews or research articles. Guest editors: Suhao Wang, Université du Littoral Côte d‘Opale, Dunkerque, France Wojciech Pisula Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, Mainz, Germany; Lodz University of Technology, Lodz, Poland Special issue information: The enduring appeal of thermoelectric materials, thanks to their ability to convert wasted heat into usable electricity, has led to continuous efforts in the design of novel molecular structure, innovative theoretical modelling, better comprehension of thermoelectric physics, as well as the development of various unconventional doping and processing techniques. During the preceding decade, substantial advancements have occurred in thermoelectrics utilizing materials other than inorganic alloys, including conducting polymers, conjugated semiconductors, graphene, nanotubes, as well as hybrid systems. This special issue aims to deliver an elaborate and timely overview of recent advances in emerging thermoelectric materials, theories, and technologies. We encourage both experimental and theoretical contributions and welcome both reviews and research articles. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: Synthesis and characterization of novel thermoelectric conjugated polymers and molecules; New insights in organic, carbon and hybrid thermoelectrics; Printed/flexible/stretchable/wearable thermoelectric devices; Doping and processing of semiconducting materials for thermoelectric applications; Charge transport mechanisms in doped conjugated polymers and molecules; Air stability, thermal stability, and operational stability of emerging thermoelectric materials; Computational modelling of thermoelectric materials and devices, including DFT calculations and Molecular Dynamics simulations.
