Presence was founded in 1992, and is the longest-established academic journal that is devoted to research into teleoperation and virtual environments (3D virtual reality worlds). The journal’s articles describe ground-breaking research into hardware and software, theoretical developments, user evaluations, and applications in areas that range from heritage and education to training simulators, healthcare, and entertainment. Cross-cutting topics include presence, wearables, augmented reality, haptics, distributed systems, navigation, user interfaces, and virtual humans. Presence appeals to a wide audience that includes computer scientists, high-tech artists and media people, psychologists involved in the study of human-machine interfaces and sensorimotor/cognitive behavior, and mechanical and electrical engineers.
