Aims & Scope

The International Journal on Artificial Intelligence Tools (IJAIT) provides an interdisciplinary forum in which AI scientists and professionals can share their research results and report new advances on AI tools or tools that use AI. Tools refer to methods, algorithms, languages, or architectures, which constitute the means connecting theory with applications. So, IJAIT is a medium for promoting general and/or special purpose tools, which are very important for the evolution of science and manipulation of knowledge. IJAIT can also be used as a test ground for new AI tools.

Topics covered by IJAIT include but are not limited to:

AI Tools for Bioinformatics
AI methods for Image and Video Understanding
AI Tools for Multimedia, Cognitive Informatics Tools
Data Mining and Machine Learning Algorithms
Deep Learning Architectures and Algorithms
Heuristic and AI Planning Methods and Algorithms
Image Understanding Methods
Integrated/Hybrid AI Approaches
Intelligent System Architectures
Knowledge Engineering Methods and Algorithms
Knowledge Management and Processing Tools
Knowledge Representation and Reasoning Schemes (Logic-based, Rule-based, Ontologies, Knowledge Graphs, Uncertainty Handling etc)
Bio-inspired Algorithms
Natural Language Understanding Methods and Algorithms
Neural Networks for AI
Object-Oriented Programming for AI
Self-Healing and Autonomous Systems
Software Engineering for AI
Intelligent Agent Systems/Architectures
AI Parallel Processing Tools (hardware/software)
AI Tools for Ubiquitous Computing
AI Tools for Intelligent Distributed Systems
Tools for Philosophical and Ethical Aspects of AI
Tools for Human-Centered AI
Tools for Hybrid AI, Explainable AI
AI Tools for Digital Industry (IoT, Medicine, Biology, Transportation, Education, etc.).

IJAIT publishes high-quality, original research papers as well as state-of-the-art surveys related to AI tools. Research papers should introduce a new innovative AI tool (method, algorithm, language, or architecture). Papers that simply use or apply existing AI tools, experimental papers (i.e. experimentally comparing existing tools) and theoretical papers are not in the IJAIT scope. Application oriented papers are welcome, given that they introduce a new AI tool used in the application. A submitted paper should include all necessary sections, like Introduction, Related Work, Experimental Results, Conclusion, and of course a section presenting the new tool. Papers that will not comply with the above and are not written in the IJAIT format will be removed at the screening stage.

Review process in IJAIT includes two stages, screening and main process. Screening concerns checking the suitability of a paper for IJAIT in terms of the above requirements. Screening may take up to a month’s time, depending on the volume of submissions. If a paper passes screening stage, it is assigned to an IJAIT Editor and thus goes into the main review process. Our objective is to have the first review round completed within four months from submission, however, this is greatly dependent on reviewers’ timely response.

IJAIT also publishes book reviews and brief updates on AI tools.

Special Issues related to the topics of the journal are welcome, but there are very limited slots per year. A short proposal should be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief. It should include: a tentative title; name(s) and address(es) of the Guest Editor(s); purpose and scope; possible contributors; and a timetable (deadlines for "call for papers" and review processes, intended publication date, etc.) The whole process should take about a year. If the proposal is accepted, the Guest Editor(s) will be responsible for the special issue and should follow the normal IJAIT review process, which requires three reviewers for each received paper. Final decisions on papers should be approved by the IJAIT EIC. A detailed policy in handling IJAIT SIs can be found here.
