Special Issue on Design and Integration of 2D Materials as Novel Semiconductive Materials and Electrolytes (VSI: Design and Integration of 2D Materials)
Submission Date: 2026-04-15

As well beyond proof-of-concept demonstrations, 2D materials with unique integration of inorganic/organic features now hold strong promise in delivering new materials science, benefiting the innovation of electronics, sensing platforms, designs of catalysts, and also solid electrolytes. Having rapidly expanded into one of the most dynamic frontiers in materials science, the studies on 2D materials have led to more than 78,000 publications in the past five years—nearly half of the total scholarly output to date. This remarkable surge underscores not only the fundamental scientific significance of 2D materials but also their transformative impact across physics, chemistry, electronics, energy, environmental science, and biomedicine. This special Issue aims to invite and publish insightful reviews and research papers on the new advances and fruitful uses of 2D materials, and also the integration of 2D materials with other semiconductors as an approach to challenge the current bottleneck of materials performance. Not only the performances in electronic devices, detectors and sensors, ionic and electron conductivity, sorption/storage/separation of guest molecules, energy storage, and catalytic reactions, the molecular design of COFs and MOFs, bottom-up and top-down synthesis, fundamental sciences, and multidisciplinary understandings of structure-performance relationships, are also the targeted subjects. Full scope of the Special Issue: The studies on the synthesis and optoelectrical properties of 2D materials, covalent organic frameworks, and metal-organic frameworks. The possible contributions and impacts of 2D materials, covalent organic frameworks, and metal organic frameworks regarding the performance of hybrid materials and devices. Various approaches for the integration of 2D materials, covalent organic frameworks, and metal organic frameworks into hybrid materials and devices. New breakthrough academic concepts and technologies upon the integration of 2D materials, covalent organic frameworks, and metal-organic frameworks.
