Optics and Lasers in Engineering aims at providing an international forum for the interchange of information on the development of optical techniques and laser technology in engineering. Emphasis is placed on contributions targeted at the practical use of methods and devices, the development and enhancement of solutions and new theoretical concepts for experimental methods.

Optics and Lasers in Engineering reflects the main areas in which optical methods are being used and developed for an engineering environment. Manuscripts should offer clear evidence of novelty and significance. Papers focusing on parameter optimization or computational issues are not suitable. Similarly, papers focussed on an application rather than the optical method fall outside the journal's scope. The scope of the journal is defined to include the following:

Special Issue on Measurement Techniques in Extreme Environments

With the integration and multi-functionalization of instruments and equipment in various industries, many materials and structures are subjected to increasingly complex loads and often serve in extreme environments. The evaluation of the performance of materials and structures in extreme environments is inseparable from measurement techniques, of which optical measurement techniques have received widespread attention from the scientific and engineering communities for their advantages of non-contact and non-destructive measurements. Thus, this special issue will focus on state-of-the-art developments and applications in optical and laser-based measurement technology in extreme environments. The aim is to provide a platform for scholars and engineers to present their cutting-edge work related to extreme measurements, and to facilitate future academic exchanges for exploring new research approaches.

Welcomed topics include, but are not limited to:

Advances in optical and laser-based measurement techniques in unconventional environments, such as Digital Image Correlation, Moiré, Digital Holography, Electronic Speckle Pattern Interference, Photoelasticity, Light Scattering, Infrared Thermography, Laser Ultrasound, X-Ray Diffraction, Raman Spectroscopy, Photon, etc.;

Interesting applications of measurement techniques in extreme environments, such as high/low temperature, pressure, speed, frequency, humidity; or complex shape, noise, reflection, vibration, corrosion, multi-load field coupling; or super long/short, large/small, strong/weak, thick/thin, etc.;
Combination with other technologies, including Image Processing, Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning, Neural Networks, and the like.
